Online counselling
Counselling does not always need to take place in the same room. Online sessions offer a private and flexible way to meet when distance, travel or other commitments make attending in person difficult.
Online Counselling
Online counselling offers a convenient way to access therapy when attending in person is difficult or simply does not suit your circumstances. Sessions take place through a private Zoom video call, allowing you to speak with me from your own home or another suitable location.
Although we meet through a screen, online counselling can still provide a meaningful and personal therapeutic relationship. Many people find that being in familiar surroundings helps them feel more comfortable when talking about difficult or sensitive experiences.
Is Online Counselling right for me?
Online counselling may be particularly helpful if you have limited time, live some distance from Beaconsfield or find travelling difficult. It can also provide continuity when work or other commitments make attending the practice impractical.
Some clients prefer to combine online and in-person appointments when circumstances change. We can consider what arrangement is most suitable for you and whether online work is likely to meet your needs.
I provide online counselling to adults aged 18 and over.
Preparing for an Online Counselling session
You will need a reliable internet connection and a device with a camera and microphone. Using a computer or tablet rather than a telephone can make the conversation feel more natural, although the most important consideration is that you can see and hear comfortably.
Please choose a private place where you are unlikely to be overheard or interrupted. Headphones can offer additional privacy. Sessions should not take place while driving or from a public setting where confidentiality cannot be maintained.
Neither of us will record the session. We will also agree what to do if the internet connection is unexpectedly interrupted.
How Online Counselling works
The process begins with an initial consultation, giving us an opportunity to discuss what has brought you to counselling and consider whether working together feels right.
Before each appointment, I will send you a private Zoom link. Sessions follow the same professional and ethical boundaries as counselling in person, including confidentiality, agreed appointment times and payment arrangements.
Online counselling is not necessarily the best option for every person or situation. We can discuss any concerns you have and consider whether meeting online, in person or using a combination of the two would be most appropriate.
Joining sessions from outside the UK
My online practice is primarily available to adults living within the United Kingdom. If you are living or travelling abroad, please discuss this with me before arranging or attending a session.
Professional requirements, insurance arrangements and local regulations can differ between countries. I therefore consider overseas work individually rather than assuming that counselling can be provided from every location.
Taking the next step
Finding a counsellor with whom you feel comfortable remains important whether sessions take place online or in person. You are welcome to ask questions about the practical arrangements before deciding whether online counselling feels suitable for you.
