About my practice
I am a fully qualified Integrative Counsellor working in private practice from my home in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. Integrative means that I have been trained in the three main therapeutic approaches, namely those of the psychodynamic, humanistic and behavioural models. Notably, many counsellors now draw on more than one modality, or type of therapy, in informing the way in which they work.
My core model or main driving force behind the way I work however is formed from the humanistic approach originating from Carl Rogers called Person Centred Therapy. It uses a non-directive style that allows my clients to take more of a lead in discussions allowing them to discover their own solutions. In addition, the success of person-centred counselling relies upon three conditions:
1) Unconditional positive regard which means therapists must be non-judgmental and valuing
2) Empathy which means therapists strive to understand and accept their clients’ thoughts and feelings
3) Congruence which means therapists carry no air of authority or professional superiority but instead present a true and accessible self that clients can see is honest and transparent
Each integrative counsellor will undoubtedly have their own influences, personal temperament and individual style which all inform the way they work however that is not to say that an integrative approach is simply a ‘mish-mash’ of the former. It is a thoughtful and carefully considered blend which is mindfully combined to suit each individual and their presenting difficulties.
Integrative counselling is therefore an approach linking different ways of thinking about the problems that a client brings and working with the client to find a ‘language’ that helps them to make sense of their experiences and reduce the impact of their suffering.
The integrative approach, I have found, is a potent and effective way of working therapeutically with my clients.

I am also a Registered Member of Pink Therapy the UK's largest independent therapy organisation working with gender and sexual diversity clients.

I hold private health insurance registration with AXA PPP healthcare.
